Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary
Located on an Indian Reservation in Lander, Wyoming, Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary is one of four public ranges in the United States where one can experience the beauty and mystique of the wild Mustang. These horses at Wind River have not passed the adoption program (three strikes) and will remain here in the wild at their forever home. If you look closely you will see that they have been tattooed and branded by the BLM.

In 2021 when I began planning this trip, I initially I considered entering Yellowstone through the east entrance by way of the Beartooth Pass. Having previously driven this, and the south entrance through Wind River, it was a difficult decision, as both are spectacular. I finally chose the later - a great choice, as a few weeks before we were due to leave, six feet of fresh the snow was dumped on the Beartooth. Five weeks later, on the 25th of June, the east entrance was still closed . The following photos were taken on the drive through the Wind River Range on our way to Lander, Wyoming.
